Professional Experience
Rocio’s artistic ability in producing an incomparable atmosphere for theatre concerts, private parties, house concerts, or at any touring or local event has made her a performer on demand in California & the United States. Currently, Rocio is featured as a solo flamenco dancer at different venues in Los Angeles like the Fountain Theatre, Alegria Restaurant, El Cid, Café Sevilla, Santa Monica Playhouse Theatre, Costa Brava, among other local venues, and has performed in bigger venues such as the Ford Theatre in Hollywood, Anaheim Convention Center, Hollywood Bowl, Luckman Theatre in Long Beach, Museum of Contemporary Arts in La Jolla, CA., Ivar Theater, and Martha B. Knoebel Theater, & currently performs at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to sold out audiences. She has also performed in Illinois, Idaho, Florida, Washington, Nevada, Utah, Greece, Japan, Spain, & Mexico and has been a member of flamenco dance companies.

Rocio Ponce has also performed at the University of Sevilla in an important convention that paid tribute to the history of flamenco. A highlight of her career was performing with Chati and her cuadro flamenco from Holland in Sevilla, and with ‘el cuadro gaditano del pueblo’ from the Sierra mountains in Ubrique-El Bosque Cadiz, Spain, where she paid a tribute to a well-known torero named Jesulin. In Sevilla, Spain she created a modern flamenco piece in the palo of Tarantos that utilized five dancers and was filmed in the studio of Juana Amaya with Australian flamenco guitarist Ingmar Strath. Rocio Ponce & A Vivir El Momento Flamenco incorporates the best musicians, singers, and dancers one can imagine allowing a dynamic and energetic program to take it’s toll.

There is no telling at the moment if the ensemble will stick to any designed reperatoire because there is always space to live the moment because the forces of nature in one’s heart can only lead with no holds bars. About/Education
Rocio Ponce has dedicated body and soul to flamenco (and all forms of Spanish dance) for the past 14 years, & other different forms of dance since she was 8 years old. A native of East Los Angeles & Veracruzano parentage, she has never forgotten her roots and is a firm believer in giving back. Toward that end, she has found that the arts are an important way to help at-risk teenagers in gang-infested neighborhoods achieve their highest potential. She uses the artistry and discipline of flamenco as a method for kids and teens to learn how to overcome challenges in their lives (and have fun at the same time!).

Through programs sponsored by the City of Los Angeles, Rocio has taught in South Central Los Angeles; Watts; East Los Angeles; Lincoln Heights; Mid-City; Compton; Boyle Heights; Highland Park; and other districts; by introducing the children of these neighborhoods to a different cultural heritage, she teaches them about another environment outside of theirs

In addition to performing, Rocio taught hip-hop, jazz, and flamenco dance at the Los Angeles Music and Art School and the Arte Flamenco Dance Studio, and has lead workshops in Washington, Idaho, and Utah. She has also judged dance competitions as a member of Dance Masters of America Association. In the United States, her teachers include Emmy Award-winner Roberto Amaral, Gabriela Garza, Sarita Ayala, and Yaelisa.

Rocio has also lived in Spain where she studied with Juana Amaya, Manuel Betanzos, Los Farrucos, Candela Soto, Maria Magdalena, El Ciro, Domingo Ortega, and El Kiyo. She has also studied dance at Edge Performing Arts Center, Hollywood CA. & has acquired a B.A. in dance from one of the top dance programs in the nation from the ‘school of arts’ at California State University, Long Beach.

A passionate, soulful and inventive dancer, Rocio has earned a reputation for fiery footwork and delicate gracia while performing with some of flamenco’s leading lights, including Gabriela Garza, Rafael Aragon, Gabriel Osuna, Clarita Corona, Jacobo Carranza, Antonio Triana, Juan Talavera, Jose Tanaka, Antonio De Jerez, Yolanda Arroyo, Paco Arroyo, Cristobal Osorio, Charo, Rosa De Huelva, Oscar Nieto, and Brizeyda Zarate.
